Considering buying a property in Halifax?

Nestled on the edge of the Pennines, the West Yorkshire market town of Halifax is a gem of diversity. With an urban area population of just over 82,000 (2001 census) the town is small enough to enjoy all the benefits of living outside of the city, but is within 20 minutes travelling distance of Leeds and 35 minutes of Manchester due to excellent links with the M1 and M62.

The industrial town once famed for its woollen and textile industry is an ambitious centre of development, but retains strong ties with its heritage through its architecture and has a reputation of being one of the most complete Victorian town’s in the Country. One of the architectural highlights of the town centre is the grade II-listed Town Hall, which was designed by Charles Barry - the designer of the Houses of Parliament.

Because of the heritage of the town there is a wealth of variety in the property available there. Alongside new builds on housing estates you will find terraced houses and modern flats. You will also discover older houses and industrial buildings which have been converted into spacious apartments. For those who want to take in a bit of the countryside the Halifax area offers cottage-style properties as you creep towards the Pennines.

In terms of social offerings Halifax fares well as a busy northern town. There is a busy urban centre with a good night life centred on a healthy number of bars and clubs. In addition to the usual leisure centres and swimming pools, Halifax also boasts nearby walking routes which take in the breath-taking scenery of The Pennines - emphasising further the breadth of experiences to be enjoyed in the region.

When it comes to education the Halifax area is home to two co-educational selective state schools - North Halifax Grammar School in Illingworth and Crossley Heath Grammar School. Both of these schools consistently perform well at GCSE and A-Level with Crossley Heath School ranking as the highest performing co-educational school in the North of England in 2005. Other schools in the area include the Holy Trinity Church of England Senior School which became an academy in 2010, and St Catherine's Catholic High School.

All in all Halifax is a West Yorkshire town with a lot to offer and with low property prices to be found in the area now is a great time to consider taking a trip over the hills.

Alternatively if you are more inclined to the city centre living style there is just as much opportunity available with flats to let in Leeds with Pickard Properties. With great benefits of multiple schools to choose from and having everything you could possible want and need so locally it’s understandable to why city living is becoming more and more popular once more.
