buying If you are a homeowner, then you will be conscious of the fact that much of your money, and perhaps the majority, is locked up in the bricks and mortar of the house. The most straightforward way to realise that money is to sell the house. However, what if you want access to some of the value of your house but don't want to sell up?

It is in a scenario like this where equity release may be a viable option. This is the process of either selling a percentage of your home or taking out a mortgage loan against the home that is repayable when you move out or pass away (plus interest), in return for which equity in your house is released: in other words, you get access to money that is locked up in the property.
