Is it a good time to buy French property?
But in July 2010, what at least is the state of the French property market and what are the signs of confidence in the market for Brits considering a purchase?
Well, the signs look encouraging. Property indexes are showing that the price of rural properties in France are up around 10% in the last six months or so, and furthermore that France is more and more popular as a destination for Brits in terms of which country most people are looking for: having overtaken Spain at the time of writing according to some commentators, although getting an overall figure is hard.
Another good bellwether is to do with enquiries from UK purchasers with regard to mortgages on French properties, and these too appear to be going up again. It remains to be seen whether the prediction that the change in capital gains tax will lead people to take money of buy to let property in Britain and put it into homes abroad as another option.
So, there would appear to be some positive signs there when it comes to the French property market and the suitability at the moment for Brits to bag a property there. But as ever it needs to be tempered with caution - the state of the Eurozone does not seem quite so certain as it did a few years ago, and if the pound does continue to do well against the Euro then it could be that by holding on a little longer you can get even more maison for your money. The choice as to when (or whether) to take the plunge and buy that property in France, as ever, is entirely yours!
