Alliance & Leicester

Another familiar name in the mortgage lending market is Alliance & Leicester which used to be a building society and is now a part of the Santander empire.

It was originally formed as an entity in 1985, through the merger of two building societies called the Leicester and the Alliance building societies respectively (hence the name).

It was turned into a bank in the year 1997 and was subsequently floated onto the London Stock Exchange.

The headquarters are in Narborough in the UK and it has around 6,000 employees.

Alliance and Leicester has a large range of different mortgages. These include products for new mortgage customers - such as first time buyers or those moving from another lender, or indeed a new landlord who is extending their portfolio.

You can also get an update on a mortgage application you've made through a direct phone number that is listed on their website in the mortgages section.

For existing Alliance & Leicester customers, there are four specific phone lines listed for: those looking for a new deal, those who and moving and want to take their mortgage with them, those who just have a question on a mortgage and also those who want to borrow more.

There are also some useful mortgage FAQs on their website which is worth a look for those who are considering an Alliance & Leicester mortgage product or already have one and have some questions.
