Bank of Scotland

The Bank of Scotland is of course particularly well known in Scotland, funnily enough.

It has a long history and is the second oldest bank that still is around in the UK, having been predated by just one year by the Bank of England.

It has the claim to fame of being the first bank in the whole of Europe that printed its own banknotes. It is now part of the Lloyds Banking Group which acquired HBOS in January 2009.

There is a range of useful options related to mortgages listed on their website.

These include a mortgage calculator (listed as the Halifax mortgage calculator) and also information on buying a home, switching mortgage lender from one to another, and information for those whose existing deal is coming to an end.

You can also apply for a loan for home owners, and find out more if you are an existing bank of scotland customer with an intermediary mortgage that is coming to an end.

There's also information for those who are first time buyers and particularly of interest for those north of the border there is a specific section available on the process of buying a home in Scotland which is of course different to that in England and Wales.
