Bradford & Bingley

Bradford & Bingley was in the press quite a bit during the financial crisis and in 2008 it was nationalised.

It was then effectively split into two segments, with the mortgage book with the Bradford and Bingley plc (nationalised) and the deposits and branch network going to Abbey National which of course now is named Santander.

The bank that was Bradford & Bingley was formed in the year 2000, and came from the demutualisation of Bradford & Bingley Building Society after members voted for the change.

Their website directs you either to content on their own site or through to the santander site.

For existing customers of mortagges content is served under the Bradford & Bingley Mortgage Express brand.

They are permanently closed to new mortgage business and are unable to offer new deals or further loans, and they want to reduce the size of their mortgage book. They say that they want to help you pay off the mortgage or to find a better deal elsewhere.

However they are listed here as they still an existing mortgage lender to many, many people who have mortgages with them, and through Santander new mortgages are of course available to customers just not through the Bradford & Bingley brand.
