Cheltenham & Gloucester

The Cheltenham & Gloucester used to be a building society and many people probably still think of it in those terms.

It is now actually part of Lloyds banking group, and specialises in the areas of savings and of most relevant to this site, as a mortgage product provider and mortgage lender.

It is one of the largest mortgage lenders in the UK and therefore an important player in this market, and it has its headquarters in Gloucester.

It has roots going as far back as 1850 with the first branch in Gloucester opening in 1896.

The takeover by Lloyds was some time ago now in 1997 and of course in the process this led to its demutualisation which is the point where it was no longer a building society; this was around the time where several traditional building societies were demutualising for one reason or another. So now Lloyds is the lender for the C & G mortgages.

Their website has a large section on mortgages and mortgage products.

As with most mortgage providers, their website features tools such as a calculator to see how much money you can borrow from them depending on your circumstances, together will tools to help you assess whether or not you are eligible to receive a mortgage from them.

They also have a video guide for those whose current deal with them is ending which is interesting to see a mortgage provider having videos online for download and viewing.

They have a very large range of mortgages, with lots of other calculator tools available such as a repayment and borrowing calculator, and even a switching calculator which outlines what rate you would move to if you switched to them.
