Co-operative Bank Mortgages

This financial institution is a commercial bank in the UK and in Guernsey.

The headquarters of the Co-operative Bank are in Manchester. The marketing pitch is clear - that (unlike many others presumably) theirs is an ethical bank, and it refuses to make investments in certain types of company.

Those types of companies will be things like those that do genetic engineering or are involved in the arms trade and so on. This policy was fairly recent, introduced in 1992.

The Co-operative Bank was formed in 1872 in Manchester, and amazingly was not a registered company until 1971. They have their own internet only operation which is known as Smile.

In the mortgage market they have various different products, at the time of writing with 90% loan to value options being available.

Mortgage products include tracker rate mortgages, fixed rate mortgages and what may be of interest for those who are interested in the more ethical and environmental side of things, something called green mortgages.

There is more information on green mortgages on their website, and there is also an article on green mortgages in the mortgages section of this site.
