Ecology Building Society Mortgages

There's little doubt that you will have heard of most of the financial services providers listed on this site. But one of the ones you are most likely not to have heard of is this one - the Ecology Building Society.

You may guess from its name that there is some environmental link, but what exactly is this building society?

Well it was actually established back in 1981 when the green agenda was a lot less prominent. It is based in West Yorkshire and is said to have over 10,000 accounts, and is part of the building societies association.

It was created with a vision of specialising in properties that have ecological benefit in some way or other. As such it has a range of different mortgage products that are available in the UK.

It has specialisations then in renovation and new build mortgages particularly where the property can be said to respect the environment, and also has an interest in property that is in a state of disrepair and is then brought back into use.

Their mortgage section at the time of writing talks about "enlightened lending" and says that even if you don't think you lead a particularly green lifestyle, your project might be of interest to them and one they can support.

There is literature available outlining what sort of property they lend on with details of their mortgage schemes. The case studies may be of particular interest to those who are thinking of applying but are not sure if they fit the criteria are not. All the usual mortgage literature and information on how to apply is also available.
