Nationwide Building Society Mortgages
The Nationwide is based in Swindon and is th only building society that is able to clear its own cheques.
An interesting fact is that apparently it is said to be larger than every other British building society put together, and of course whilst many other large building societies demutualised in the 80s and 90s the Nationwide did not do so.
It is a member of the building societies association and dates from around the 1840s.
It has a comprehensive range of different morgages and has a useful tool that lets people compare different mortgages at a glance, based on the property value and the mortgage required, with a choice of options for whether the person is:
a first time buyer
a new customer moving
a new customer remortgaging
an existing customer that is moving, borrowing more, has a deal that is ending or wants to switch and fix
A range of different scenarios and options are explained and worked through on the site. If you already have a mortgage then you are able to view your statements and manage mortgage payments online which is a useful facility.
