Finding A Gardener

There can be a whole variety of reasons why you might want a gardener.

Perhaps you have a large expanse of grass and want nothing more than someone to cut this for you once a month. Or perhaps you are not getting any younger and simply don't fancy, or aren't able to, bend down and pull out those weeds and stop the garden looking unkempt and overgrown.

A tidy garden is always a good idea, both in terms of making a property look nice but also so that it looks lived in and cared for. Therefore what should you do if you decide that you want a gardener?

Well, first it depends on your requirements. If you have specific plants that need to be tended for, then you may need the services of someone with experience in cultivating that particular plant, or plants.

But for most people who simply want someone to look after their garden, cut the grass, keep things tidy, plant a few flowers at the right time of year and generally keep their garden looking attractive, then most gardeners will be suitable. The key is finding the right one.

There are two things to do. The first is to ask around family and friends and get recommendations. Many people either use a gardener or more likely know someone who uses a gardener, or perhaps even is one, and therefore you can get recommendations this way. It is much easier if you get a word of mouth recommendation for someone who is reliable, as even if someone has an impressive website or sounds good, there is nothing like actually hearing it from someone you can trust.

The second thing would be to get a couple of quotes from different local gardeners based on your requirements. The cheaper might not be the best, but this will at least give you an idea of the range of prices and help you work out if you are prepared to pay for the more expensive quote if you think the service is going to be better or not. In other words, do some research and ask around, and you should be able to find a good quality local gardener who does not cost the earth, but is rather good at looking after yours!
