Skip Hire
If you are clearing a large area of land or even the contents of a house or room, such as taking out all the kitchen units and fitting a new kitchen, then the chances are that you will have a large amount of rubbish. In these circumstances it makes sense to hire a skip. Most people have these placed on their drives as there is not easy access to the back garden for instance if that would be more convenient, but do consider carefully the location simply because the weight of a skip or at least the filled skip is not unknown to do nasty things such as crack a drive or cause stress fractures, or even cause the material to get pushed down slightly: this can lead to an unsightly driveway and possible problems that need to be fixed (at cost) once the skip is removed - so do consider whether the ground will take the weight of a filled skip comfortably if there is more than one possible place where you can put it.
In terms of actual skip hire, this is quite a common request and therefore as you would expect there are several companies that offer skips for hire, on a range of different time periods. In almost all circumstances for residential use, they drop off the skip and then pick it up again. You will need to consider what size skip you need, depending on how much rubbish you have. There are a range of different sizes, and these range from mini skips through to midi skips up to small and large builder sized skips; standard sizes are equivalent in space terms from around 2 cubic yards up to around 12 cubic yards or even more in some cases!
A good way to work out which size you will need is to consider how many bin bags worth you are going to have to clear. Then consider that a 4 cubic yard bin will store about 50 - 60 bin bags, and for each extra 2 cubic yards of space you can add around 20 more bin bags. This should help gauge how large a skip you need.
Be sure, as ever, to get a few quotes as prices do vary, and so that you know that you are getting a good deal on your skip hire.
