Solar Power in the Home

Renewable and green forms of energy are all the rage. Ultimately all the energy on the planet that was not here when the planet was created comes from the sun, and the photons that it releases.

Solar power is therefore one of the most direct ways of trapping the energy that is in the suns rays, and using it to produce electricity.

The problem with solar power is that you need a good amount of sunlight to get benefit from it, and in some parts of the UK this is in doubt - we are always moaning about the weather anyway, and certainly when the shorter days kick in and it is cooler, then there may be little power to be derived this way.

The second problem is the cost of installation, and of course needing somewhere to put the solar panels. Whilst there are tentative plans in place to make it easier for new build houses to be created with some sort of solar panels in the roof, this is pretty much just a tentative plan at the moment, and for those wanting solar power now it can seem too expensive to install, and also you need to think about where the panels are going to be housed too.

If you have not been put off by the cost, then that is the first step. Certainly those who sell solar panels emphasise that it needs to be seen as a long term investment for the home: pay a lot more now on the hope of getting enough electricity back out of the panels over the years that they end up paying for themselves.

One benefit is that you may find that there are tax breaks or incentives for trying to use green forms of energy so it is certainly worth enquiring; there may even be grants available. There are various companies that supply and install solar panels in the UK so do some research and you never know, the sun might be warming you up literally in the not too distant future!
