Tidying A Garden

It is important to maintain the appearance of your garden, even if you are not interested in gardening per se.

The effort of cutting the grass every month or so to keep it at a manageable level may be a little dull, but it is important as a minimum to stop the runaway effect whereby a garden gets overgrown.

Not only does an overgrown garden look scruffy, and untidy, it also results in a garden that is much harder to tidy and clear when it becomes necessary. If you are selling a house with a garden you are going to find it really hard with an overgrown and unkempt garden, so for this reason alone it is worth keeping it in check whilst you live there.

If you have a large amount of grass and don't want to have to cut it all the time, then you could consider some other options. For instance, laying gravel down or even paving over the grass could mean that there is much less maintenance to perform.

If you have moved into a house where the garden is looking a little worse for wear, then it can be best to try to organise a working party, whereby you rope in a group of family and friends and spend a day or two cracking the worst of it. Whilst it might be hard to rope others in, you can perhaps bribe them with a nice bottle of wine or something!

The reason is that it can be quite daunting as one person to tackle a garden that is unkempt and it can keep on getting put off and off, with a larger group the teamwork can ensure that you are motivated enough to actually tackle the garden, and it is surprising how quickly a group of co-ordinated people can break the back of the work and get a garden into a manageable state again. Four or five people can achieve as much in a day as you would on your own over a period of a couple of weeks for instance! And add to that it is more fun and interesting doing such a thing as a group and you have another incentive.
