So what are green mortgages? Well, for those who wish to reduce their carbon footprint by means of improving the energy efficiency of their homes, the Co-Operative Bank has a mortgage that helps meet this end, this is the green mortgage mentioned in the title of this article.
According to their website, you use the equity in your house to pay for the energy efficient home improvements, and they say the reward is an exclusive deal which is called their energy efficient advance.
It is available only to customers who wish to borrow up to an additional £20,000 to install energy efficient home technologies who are existing customers and the purchases must be off an approved list.
Things that are approved include the likes of cavity wall insulation, floor and loft and solid wall insulation, also draught proofing, tanks and pipe insulation, double glazing, solar PV and solar water heating.
