Researching Spanish Property

Researching where to live in Spain can be a full time job! There are many things to take into account before you even set foot in the country.

One of the most important things to consider is actually the climate. Although we all tend to feel jealous of the Spanish climate, and when we go on holiday enjoy turning into lizards basking in the sun, in reality it can be quite different.

Do you really want to be scorched in 40 degree heat for much of the Summer as may be the case in the South? If you like walking outside and feeling as though you are walking into a hairdryer on 'hot' then that's great, but for many people what we like on holiday and what we want in daily life, when we may have work to do, are quite different.

And also our ideas about climate can actually be quite different to what we think, with there being considerable variances between different places in Spain, and often a place can be very cold in Winter (colder than the UK on average) and warmer in the Summer. Therefore before deciding where you want to live, do look at the actual charts of average temperatures to see what might suit you best.

Also consider if there are any particular regions that you want to live in, not just because they are up and coming, or perhaps out of the way, but because that region would suit your particular way of life for instance. Try not to consider average property prices in the region at this stage, but rather consider where your dream home may be. You might like to consider practicalities, such as how quickly you will be able to commute back to the UK from said place if you envisage doing so, or if you really need to. Whilst there is undoubtedly charm in living in the middle of nowhere, remember that this makes you more isolated and also makes moving in rather hard, particularly if you think several trips will be needed!
