Spanish Property - Gestors to Mortgage

When you look into buying property abroad, you are sure to come across the term 'gestor' which will be unfamiliar to most of us.

This is simply a term for a type of legal representative in Spain. You would use them to fill in all the various paperwork and forms for you, and the good news is that the prices will tend to be quite reasonable if you shop around a little bit.

Because there is much paperwork to be filled in when it comes to obtaining work permits, licences and so on then it can be worth its weight in gold having someone experienced to fill in forms for you - this will reduce delays and also the frustration of not knowing what you should put in various places on forms. They will be experts at it so filling in the various details will be like old hat to them.

They can also offer good advice on a range of other questions you may have (such as the process when it comes to bringing your beloved pet dog Fido with you and so on and so forth).

In fact it is also advisable to have a tax representative to look after the tax side of things if you buy in Spain but don't live - that way you know there is someone who can be sent the various tax related documents to do with the property and this will both give peace of mind and ensure that everything continues to run smoothly. If you owe taxes of any sort and are late paying then you can expect that there will not be much tolerance, so you must always have a named contact to which all correspondence relating to taxes can be sent (and they must be resident in Spain).

When it comes to mortgages, the good news is that the process is similar to that of getting a mortgage set up in the UK. You will need to show originals of things such as your passport and driving licence, a few months worth of payslips (if you are employed) and three years audited accounts and other relevant paperwork should you be self employed.

Be aware that they will almost certainly take photocopies of the documents that you provide them with.
