Tax relief on French properties...

I have just bought a couple of small gites to let out in the Dordogne and have been told that I can claim back capital allowances on installations on holiday lets, such as air conditioning and security systems. Apparently I must be a UK tax payer and the property has to be in the EU, but is there anything else I need to know? Maybe somebody could recommend an adviser or tax relief specialist in the UK for advice.
