Hello,

If you are thinking about equity release then there are lots of decisions to be considered.

As with most very important decisions, the more that you know about it and the more that you think about it, the better informed you are and therefore the better is your position to work out what it is that you want to do.

There is some useful information about this at the age concern website in the uk, it has a fact sheet that you can download that tells you more about equity release here:

That's a useful link there.

Generally there is a lot of good quality information out there on the internet about important and potentially confusing topics such as equity release.

As ever the problem is finding that information and trying to ascertain whether it is reliable and good quality information or not - also as rules and regulations change quite often it is also important to check how topical information is.

Because it employs huge numbers of people and doesn't have to be commercial a good source of information on pretty much anything on the web is the BBC.

Just looking at equity release now brought up this article:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3040663.stm

It tells you the basics of what you need to be to be eligible for equity release - age and value of home.

It also goes through some of the questions that you should ask when you are thinking about equity release, so I reckon this is another useful reference for those looking for some basic information on equity release and what it is.

Another useful link there Geoffrey.

It's particularly important people who are considering equity release have good information about it. That's because it is a major decision and has repercussions for friends and family, and of course the money that is left to the estate after the equity has been sold in the house, whatever form that takes in the individual scheme.
