What is commercial property...

This might be a little bit of a basic question, but...

could you tell me what commercial property is? As in how is it different to ordinary property (if that's what the difference is with).

I assume it is something to do with businesses perhaps rather than individuals. Would be interesting to know!

You have pretty much hit the nail on the head there, Geoffrey, with regard to commercial property.

This is as opposed to residential property, or the houses or perhaps flats etc in the street that you live in. Residential property is for individuals, whilst commercial property is specifically a place of business.

This could be something quite small like a little shop, or it could be a large and impressive piece of property like some of the skyscrapers in Canary Wharf, it really does very from the very small to the giant... these are all grouped under the umbrella term of commercial property.

OK that's what I thought then.

Has commercial property been affected in the same way as residential property in the last couple of years with the market being flat at best or with prices going down?

And does it have estate agents in the same way as residential properties or given how much money must be involved are there companies that build properties then try to rent it out themselves or is there some other mechanism instead? It sounds quite interesting so I would like to find out more about commercial property and how it works just out of interest.

Commercial property?!

I find it confusing enough to understand what ordinary property is nevermind thinking about different types!

I suppose this is to do with properties for companies based on reading around but I think I will stick to what I know... unless I set up my own business luckily I don't think this is something I will ever need to worry about
